Remote Seal Differential Pressure Transmitter - Capacitive

SMT3151 Remote Seal Differential Pressure Transmitter measures the difference in pressure between two points in a system, converting it into an electrical signal for level monitoring.

To prevent the medium in the pipeline from entering the transmitter directly, the medium and the transmitter are connected by a capillary filled with fluid.

Differential Pressure Level Transmitter is commonly used in industries like oil and gas, water treatment, and chemical processing. It is used to measure the liquid level, flow and pressure of liquid, gas or steam, and then convert it into 4~20mA DC signal output.

Features

The Remote Seal Differential Pressure Transmitter is designed to avoid direct contact between the measured medium and the isolation diaphragm of the transmitter. This measurement method is suitable for the following situations:

  1. The measured medium is corrosive to the sensitive components of the transmitter.
  2. It is necessary to isolate the high-temperature medium from the transmitter.
  3. The measured medium contains solid suspended particles or has high viscosity.
  4. The measured medium tends to solidify or crystallize when guided through the pressure tube.
  5. Replacing the measured medium requires thorough purification of the measuring head.
  6. The measuring head must remain hygienic and contamination-free. Applicable for corrosive or viscous liquids.

Note: Remote transmitters should not be used in vacuum conditions.

Remote Seal Differential Pressure Transmitter for Liquid Measurement

Differential pressure level / flow measurement is a widely used method that involves measuring the pressure difference between the top and bottom of a container. This technique is known for its accuracy, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

The double flange level transmitter functions as a differential pressure transmitter. It calculates liquid height based on the differential pressure using Pascal’s law and is typically used to measure liquid levels in pressure vessels.

It is generally installed side-mounted on the pressure vessel. Proper alignment of the flange and vertical positioning of the transmitter head are essential to avoid measurement errors.

- The lower flange (positive pressure side) is installed on the lower part of the tank and contacts the liquid medium.
- The upper flange (negative pressure side) is installed on the upper part of the tank and contacts the gas medium.

Assuming the pressure sensed by the lower flange is P2 = P0 + P, and the pressure sensed by the upper flange is P0, the differential pressure output is ΔP = P2 - P0 = P.

In the formula:
P2 — Pressure at the lower flange
P0 — Pressure of the gas at the upper flange
P — Static pressure of the liquid

The differential pressure output represents the height of the liquid column. According to Pascal’s law, liquid of the same density at the same depth exerts equal pressure in all directions.

The formula for calculating the liquid height (H) is:

Liquid level transmitter measurement calculation formula

In the formula:
H — Height of the liquid
P — Static pressure of the liquid
ρ — Density of the liquid
g — Acceleration due to gravity

The Differential Pressure Level Transmitter is mainly used for process measurement. Its compact size allows for easy installation. Offline verification of the transmitter saves energy and enhances operational efficiency.
